People seem to be quite
invested in being curious about MDF. MDFs are supposedly the next best thing in
the market. So, what exactly is MDF or an MDF Board? So, MDF is
a kind of engineered wood based composite which bears similarity with a
particle board but is denser and stronger than your regular particle board.
How is it made?
The process is wood
recycling done right, and the small wood particles that are swept away or
rather thrown away are all accumulated and pressed hard against one another to
give MDF boards and sheet. The wood particles are pressed so hard against each
other that they don't leave any dent or undulation. The lack of any wood grain
makes MDF quite smooth and this also increases the versatility of MDF. If you
intend to Buy MDF
Board then make sure to know the visible difference between MDF/HPL. Some do prefer laminates
such as ACP India,
PVC
Laminates and Metal Laminates for
various purposes since most of them help retain the texture that wood offers.
What are the advantages of
MDF?
·
They are cheaper than plywood (if that's what you were
planning to buy)
·
The surface of MDF is smoother than other
wood composited and is also devoid of any knots or undulation.
·
Its smoothness increases the versatility of this product
since you can paint on its surface without having to worry about the colors
sticking to its surface. It is advisable that you use a coat of an oil-based
primer before you proceed with your painting. But don't use aerosol based
primers since they are absorbed quickly by the boards. It will be a huge waste
of money and your time.
· MDF surface being smooth makes it a great substrate to apply
veneer.
· The consistency that MDF has makes it smooth
even with cuts and variations to it.
· Its smooth surface makes it easier for you to cut and
decorate it accordingly.
Easy
cutting can also give you the freedom to design it more intricately. The tools
that you can use to do so are band saw, scroll saw and jigsaw.
